Note: This is just a guide. The time spent at Bassas da India may vary depending on weather conditions and logistics.
We prefer if possible that guests to arrive in Vilanculos the night before their charter departs so that we can get an early departure on day 1.
Transfer to yacht. Once settled in and unpacked, the vessel will depart for Bassa da India. Get active by throwing a lure overboard and you'll stand a good chance of catching dinner. It is a 36 to 48 hour cruise to Bassa da India.
If in a nautical mood, our skipper will show you the ropes with the sailing of the yacht. Enjoy relaxing on deck or in the lounge reading, playing board games or listening to music while the vessel carves effortlessly through the deep Indian Ocean, and of course fish to your hears content.
Arrives at Bassas da India. On arrival, throw anchor and then it is time to get the scuba or fishing gear out. For non-divers and fishermen, the dingy can take you to the reef for a walk on the rocks where old ship wrecks can be explored and interesting marine life can be seen in the rock pools (remember your sandals to protect your feet!). Cocktails and dinner are enjoyed outdoors on the aft deck where the sun can be seen setting lazily over the azure Indian Ocean.
Day 4 -7
Spend these sunny days diving, exploring and fishing over this diverse atoll. Relax totally and unwind on board. Enjoy sociable meals and evening cocktails. On the afternoon of the 7th day, we will raise her anchor and unfurl sails for the voyage back to the Bazaruto Archipelago. It is a 2 day cruise to return and our aim is to be back on the afternoon of the 9th day.
Arrive in Vilanculos for your last night on board. Dive, fishing, snorkel and enjoy the activities on board for one last day
Enjoy a final breakfast together before heading to Vilanculos airport where the flight back to Johannesburg will be waiting.

All yachts offer the same level of service. We will however make sure the yachts offered to you for charter match your needs and desires as closely as possible.
As the atoll is a long way from any medical facility, only diving on computer will be allowed. In the interest of safety dives must have proof of the diving qualification - Advanced Divers only. Divers will also be interviewed by the prior to diving. Please note that any decision taken by either the dive master or skipper must be accepted as safety is paramount to fully enjoying the experience offered at Bassas da India.
We do not guarantee weather to and at Bassas da India and it is the skippers prerogative to turn around if weather conditions are unsafe. Client will have no claim against Oceans Islands & Safaris if a trip is interrupted by weather conditions. Bassa da India is a French territory, and we do not take any responsibility should a French navy boat ask the Yacht to depart within 48 hours. (this has never actually previously happened)
It must be noted that a charter to Bassa da India is not a leisurely island hopping cruise for the inexperienced sailor, fishermen or diver. You should understand that you are embarking on an expedition style adventure cruise, spending 10 days at sea with 2 days of open blue water sailing to reach the coral atoll. There is also no dry land except at low tide when the atolls fringing reefs are exposed as you can see in the numerous photos on this website.
A charter to Bassa da India is therefore not a destination for the faint hearted or inexperienced diver or fishermen. At the same time clients must also appreciate and understand the nature of a yacht charter and living aboard a yacht. At sea, things never go according to plan, equipment may fail, and running repairs may well have to take place. There are no mariners to pull into or hardware stores to run to if something breaks or stops working. Clients have to be aware of the reality of spending 10 days at sea.
This is a world class once in a life time destination, but at the same time you must appreciate the nature of a charter to Bassa da India and in spending 10 days at sea.
